About This Research Study

This study investigates Corporate Altruism - the possibility of genuine, other-regarding action within for-profit organisations. The research examines whether businesses can act altruistically, or whether corporate social engagement could be strategic self-interest.

Participation involves two conversations, one week apart.

In the first, we'll explore how you and your organisation think about altruism, where tensions arise between doing good and doing well, and what makes selfless action difficult in a commercial environment.

In the second, we'll share a framework developed from these early conversations and ask you to challenge it: Does it reflect reality? Would it work in your boardroom? What's missing?

Primary Research Questions

  • What is currently known about altruism in commercial, for-profit organisations?
  • How can corporate altruism be conceptualised for professionals?
  • What are the barriers to corporate altruism being more widely adopted?
  • How might professionals respond to a proposed model of corporate altruism?
